Mauro Fiorentino was born in Naples, Italy, on 15.06.1955 and graduated in Hydraulic Engineering in 1979. Since 1987 he is at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Basilicata, Italy, where since 1994 is Professor of Hydrology and Hydraulic Engineering. In 1981 he was researcher at the ENEL-CRIS. From 1983 to 1987 he was researcher at the University of Calabria. In 1984 he was a visiting researcher at the Institute of Hydrology in Wallingford (UK) and between 1985 and 1986 was Research Associate at the Louisiana State University (USA). He was awarded the 1995 IAHR Lecturer Award. He develops an intensive research in various fields of hydrology and water resources, with particular reference to complex systems and natural environments. He is the author of over 150 scientific papers and editor of several books. From 2002 to 2009 has been Dean of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Basilicata. From 2005 trough 2009 he has been a member of the board of the Italian Center for access to schools of Engineering (CISIA). From 2006 trough 2009 it reached secretary of the Conference of Deans of the Italian Engineering Faculties (CoPI). In 2009 he founded the Consortium for Hydrology (CINID) of ten valuable Italian universities. From September 2009 trough September 2014 he has been the Rector of the University of Basilicata.
